London Olympic Pavillion

The initial purpose of this Olympic Pavilion is to operate as a satellite of the London 2012 Games - a structure for receiving and translating the great athletic events into a spatial form that's complimentary with the life of Trafalgar Square. Inviting metaphor, the form could be interpreted as a cornucopia (sustained with its food and gifts inside), a boomerang (for its arcing dynamic shape), and optimistically, as a victory V (with raised arms). Considered many ways, it adds up to a 'stage within the stage' of Trafalgar, inviting tourist and citizen alike to participate in their own experiences of London and the Games.  Constructed primarily of wood and demountable, it is renewable in material and use, and ideally, could make seasonal returns to the Square, continuing to place Londoners in the centre of action for years to come. With its information/souvenir shop , cafe, lounge, media offices and multi-purpose outdoor terrace and big screen, it offers a variety of attractions in a svelte envelope; unifying variety in the service of a show that must go on...
